WILDWAVE
‘Wild Wave’ is tucked away on our first floor. A short climb up the century old timber staircase reveals the breathtaking vista across the bay. This king suite is dedicated to the memory of the tall ship, the Wild Wave. Steered to destruction a century ago, she gallantly battled Bass Strait’s seething waters before breaking anchor in the port of Stanley and coming to rest at Tasmania’s tumultuous edge.
Gazing through the dormer window to the tranquil sweep of sand and sea below, one is easily mesmerised by the gentle curves of Sawyers Bay and Tatlows Beach. Close your eyes and imagine for a moment a wild fury so powerful that it could single-handedly destroy a vessel upon these very shores. In 1923, Mother Nature sealed the fate of the Wild Wave, wrenching her from her anchor and hurtling her against the coast until she broke. The lonely remains of this stately barque remain buried in the sand in front of the Ship Inn Stanley.
Guests are treated to a calming vista overlooking the sands where the Wild Wave lay in destruction for many decades until slowly being demolished by man and sea. Unwind in century old seafaring comfort with a contemporary twist.
